There are three kinds of writers.

First, there is the person who “can’t not write”. No matter how hard this person tries, they can never give up writing. It is ingrained in their psyche. It is an essential part of their very existence. The writing may take many forms from poems to journaling. But, the person must write; must put down creative thoughts; must bleed all over the page.

Second, there is the person who has discovered that writing can be a career. Such a person may not like writing. Such a person looks upon writing as a job and not a pleasure.

Third, there is the person who combines the first two successfully and is published. This person has an inborn talent for writing. But, that talent must be nurtured and pointed in the right direction. The talent is raw and must be refined. Quite often in the writing process that we see in the publishing world today, such raw talent is immediately dismissed and thrown on the slush pile. There is no encouragement. There is no instruction. Often, these people end up back in category one; struggling to write because they can never get published and living with raw, unfocused writing. Now, that is fine. Many writers write purely for pleasure or family or friends and never care to move beyond their level of talent. There is nothing wrong with this. But, to move into category two, the raw talent must be developed. At the present this can only be done with education, workshops, and writing contests. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if someone would take the time to critique the raw talent’s writing and point them in the right direction to improve their art? Wouldn’t it be great if you could discover the next great writer languishing in rejection purgatory and lift them out and give them the kind of instruction and training they would need to move to the highest level of writing?

My hope is that 613media will one day become such an entity. Right now, it is not. Right now, it is only a handful of people. But, the desire and the hope is there that we can help writers move from frustration and rejection to polished, awesome writing.

613media believes:

  • Quality is of highest importance.
  • Inspirational writing will reflect a Christian worldview.
  • Use what is culturally relevant to tell what is timeless.
  • Jesus taught in parables and we teach through stories.
  • Strong characters facing difficult situations leads to good stories.
  • Mediocrity is unacceptable.
We will use whatever Godly method we can to spread the Godly Message of the Gospel through excellent storytelling.
